Tate Modern
We love to connect our dragons with nature, but we can't make them miss out on the beauty of the city—so we have taken them to Tate Modern! Tate Modern is home to the country's collection of international modern and contemporary art, and it's one of the biggest museums in the world and has wonderful exhibits and workshops for the children to immerse themselves in the world of art
Shakespeare's Globe
Just up the river from our school - a short 3 stop boat ride on our friendly Thames Clipper - is Shakespeare's Globe Theatre - with its wonderful matinee performance programme and educational workshops that our children can attend whilst learning about the Bard, poetry and rhyme as part of our literacy programme at the schools
Southwark Cathedral
Southwark Cathedral butts up against Borough Food market and the Globe Theatre, the original foundations of which can still be seen as you walk along bankside, some reaching back to the 7th century. The workshops and outreach programmes at the Cathedral are fun and interactive programmes for our children to engage in on an afternoon out along the river
Museum of London Docklands
The Museum of London Docklands is located just across the river from us - a short 3 minute Clipper ride to Canary wharf and a 10 minute walk on the other side to access some amazing workshops and dedicated activities to help our children understand the history and communities of London
Cutty Sark
The world famous Tea Clipper ship travelled the world collecting tea from China and India and bringing it back to the UK. It's a museum to and monument of trade and of maritime exploration and we use it's wonderful EYFS programme - EYFS Sea Sing and Story Ship - to help our children learn about the seven seas and life aboard a boat. And what pirates might be lurking around the next inlet!
Royal Observatory Greenwich
Just a hop, jump and a skip away from our school lies Greenwich Palace and the Royal Observatory, which offers some amazing educational outreach programmes to help children learn about our place in the solar system and how time - the central meridian - was established right here in the UK all those years ago. The observatory offers a Discovery Day or a Space Spectacular Day, consisting of a planetarium show, an interactive workshop, a self-facilitated astronomy activity, a self-facilitated visit to the historic north site, and a time-slot in the lunch room.
National Maritime Museum
Exhibitions and displays at the National Maritime Museum tell stories of people and the sea and trace links between Britain and the wider world. Their EYFS and Primary school sessions at the Museum cover topics such as exploration and piracy, supporting literacy through their EYFS Story House programme. The Queens House also features EYFS arts programmes, all inspired by the sea and pirates who plague it!
Royal Naval College
The Royal Naval College butts on to the river and sits on the site of Henry the VIII's old palace in Greenwich, offering our children huge wide open spaces to explore and imposing edifices to admire. The College itself offers family tour days to explore the grounds, and learn about all of the admirals who studied their craft at the college
Russia Dock Woodland
Beetles, amphibians ... you name it, our dragons have seen it in this green oasis!
Surrounded by grasslands, woodland, and ponds, Russia Dock Woodland is a nature park in Rotherhithe.
Though the original docks were closed in the 1970s, many of its historical features were preserved, such as the mooring chains and tracks, wall capstones, and more, showing our children a glimpse of history.
Surrey Docks Farm
Surrey Docks Farm is a community farm that helps people learn about nature, animals, farming, and food production.
In the Surrey Docks farm, our children have interacted with goats, ponies, and ferrets—even feeding the calves themselves!
The Brunel Museum
There are many wonderful places to visit in Canada Water, and one of them is the Brunel Museum. For our history programme and to showcase STEM education in action, we talk to our children about the history of the steam train and locomotives in London (and, frankly, the rest of the world. We hope it helps our little people understand what they can achieve when they put their minds to something and to never give up on your ideas!
Lavender Pond Nature Park
With a wet meadow and a woodland planted with many native trees, our dragons surely have connected with nature in their many visits at the Lavender Pond Nature Park!
Created in 1982 by the Trust for Urban Ecology, this nature park is a green haven for many plants and animals.
London Zoo
And every once in a while, all of our schools come together for a Hatching Dragons wide school trip to London zoo to check out the animals that we've been learning about throughout our monthly regional themes of learning. It's a wonderful day out for all of the children, and the zoo staff offer a huge enrichment programme that aim to teach the children about zoology and how we should all care for the climate
London Tower Bridge
London Bridge has not fallen down, as our dragons have personally seen it in their trip to the city!
The famous London Tower Bridge is the biggest and most sophisticated bascule bridge ever created.
Fun fact: The design of the creators of the bridge, Sir Horace Jones and Sir John Wolfe Barry, was selected among over 50 designs!
