City of London School Trips
Home to world-class art and culture, the City of London is 2000 years old, existing from the time of the Romans to the modern day! Our dragons have explored its museums, seen its beautiful pieces of art, and experienced its rich culture in our many excursions.
Register today to be part of our future adventures in the City!
Tate Modern
The Tate Modern is only a matter of 20 minutes walk from our front door at our Barbican Nursery. We pass by St Pauls Cathedral and straight over the Millennium Bridge, stopping to look at the sights of the City along those breathtaking views from the Thames.
And when we're there, it's arts and crafts galore as part of our Arts Programme. We do a quick whistle stop tour of some of the galleries just to show the kiddies some of the artists we're exploring in our regional foci of the month, and then it is to the Family focussed kids activities programme that is always on at the Gallery.
London Sky Garden
Have your children ever seen the City of London from above the clouds? It's not an experience that many nursery schools provide their children, but with us, they really get to develop a sense of perspective.
Being in the City of London means that we're only minutes walk from some of the most exciting and developmentally inspiring experiences that London can offer. And the Sky Garden is just one such opportunity. It's the highest public garden in the city, giving our dragons a 360-view of London's breathtaking skyline, whilst getting a little lesson in greenery and growing to boot!
London Symphony Orchestra
St Lukes in Old Street is the second home of the London Symphony Orchestra, and regularly offers early years and families activities as part of its core curriculum to help young children develop an appetite for music. By mixing both workshops and concerts for schools and early years, we get the opportunity to immerse our children in the world of sound, bringing the most magical moments to life. See what's on below
The Barbican Centre
And of course, our nearest and dearest cultural facility, which is happily situated right outside our front door - the Barbican Centre. From Story & Rhyme time at the Barbican Children's Library, to weekend family concerts with the London Symphony Orchestra, from Curve Gallery art exhibitions to meandering walks through the Conservatory and high walk gardens across the estate, the Barbican has something for everyone and. is a great opportunity for our children to explore the City, safely, without the sound of cars!
The Guildhall
And only a matter of minutes walk from our doorstep is the City of London Corporation's administrative, political and historical heart that is the Guildhall. With foundations that trace back to the 11th century, the building is filled with famous artworks and galleries pointing to the sometimes tricky nature of the relationship between the leading lords and merchants of the day and the ruling monarchs. It also houses regular exhibits from local school children about life in the Square Mile; the history of Science in the City; Dick Whittington and the infamous Puss in Boots; and of course the Lord Mayor's Show (where our children got to meet him in person!)
The Tower of London
A little further afield is the infamous Tower of London, home to the beefeaters and protective crows who keep the Crown Jewels safe for the King. Taking the children to see the Crown Jewels is a particularly exciting opportunity for our preschoolers, who interrogate the meaning of kingship in this day and age, normally resulting in a fair amount of role play when we get back. It's a good half day out for our teachers and children and so snacks are always taken for our trip, before we learn about its history and the famous people who were kept trapped in its dungeons!
The Bank of England
And just spitting distance from the school is the Bank of England, the oldest bank set up by Elizabeth the 1st to fund wars against the French, it was established under Royal Charter by King William in 1694 to be for the good of the people. Essentially loaning money to government, it is now the UK's central bank and so offers our children the opportunity to learn about money, how it is made (and more fun for them, how it is spent) and how we can invest it for our future
St Pauls Cathedral
And it's not half bad to have one of the most impressive Cathedrals the UK has to offer on your doorstep. Replete with gardens and open spaces, a trip to the cathedral allows us to show the children the majesty of old architecture, talk a little about these monuments to religion. We are non-denominational and do not preach or practice one faith over the other, but rather look to these buildings (and celebrations in our international festivals programme) to help our children understand what people might believe and why
