Westminster School Trips
Being in the heart of the nation's capital gives us ready access to some of the most amazing cultural monuments that London has to offer. From day trips to Buckingham Palace through to teddy bear picnics in St James Park, we take our children on cultural excursions that other nurseries can only dream of offering.
So, if that sounds like the kind of preschool education you want, register today!
The Houses of Parliament
Buckingham Palace
The Royal Collection Trust has offered school visits of the Royal Household for years. You can see the full list of the Top 10 sites our children get to see, from the Throne Room, through to the Marble Hall and luscious Palace Gardens right here. Given this is a half day trip in itself, we often take the time to see Horse Guards Parade and St James' Park too!
Tate Britain
Previously known as the National Gallery of British Art and The Tate Gallery, Tate Britain is the home of contemporary and classical art pieces to complement the modern art that is found up by our sister school at the Tate Modern on the banks of the City of London. We use both as an ongoing resource for our arts programme (see Tate Kids for much more) and regularly check what exhibits are showing of the best of the last 500 years of contemporary art and always try to showcase artists from our regional focus of the month
The London Aquarium
Understanding the World is central to our educational ethos and we strive to show children the wonders of the world as much as we can. And if we can't take children, physically, to the Maldives or the Great Barrier Reef to see the wonders of the ocean world, well we'll get them to see and experience the next best thing. Having the London Aquarium only a matter of minutes walk from the school is a boon for all of our children and butts up against the next wonder...the London Eye!
London Eye
And just like our colleagues at the City of London school benefit from the Sky Gardens, our Westminster children get the ferris wheel of all ferris wheels to show them the sites and sounds of our capital city: The London Eye.
Our children are lifted aloft to see London in all its glory in a safe and slow fashion, allowing our teachers to point out the key monuments across our capital, inviting the children to see familiar landmarks and show them where there house might be relative to where we are. It's an amazing experience to show size, dimension, spatial awareness and to remember how small we all really are in the grand scheme of things!
Wicked at the Apollo
And just up the road from our lovely school in the heart of Pimlico is the wonderful Apollo Theatre, currently home of the smash hit theatre production Wicked. Lucky for us, Wicked has an educational outreach programme called Wicked Active Learning, which allows school groups to book in for amazing matinee performances on Wednesdays at 1430, so a small afternoon treat-come-spectacular for our children when the weather's not looking to rosy....
Shrek Adventures
And just around the corner from the London Aquarium and the London Eye are our friends, Shrek and family. Housed at the London Southbank and so only just across the water from us, this exhibit is a fun half day out for the kids, to learn about the DreamWorks Studios to help children learn about how movies and fairy tales can be brought to life
Paddington Bear Experience
And our latest amazing excursion in 2024 is the launch of the Paddington Bear experience also housed in the wonderful Southbank centre. The children will experience live actors and interactive gameplay to immerse them into the wonderful world of Paddington to life. They'll start their journey at the bustling Paddington Station before boarding a full-sized train carriage. From there, they’ll travel through the vibrant streets of London, visit the Browns’ house at No. 32 Windsor Gardens and even venture into the magical jungle of Peru—all to help Paddington prepare for the biggest party Windsor Gardens has ever seen – the Marmalade Day Festival!
Southbank Centre
And of course the home of all of this wonderful activity is the Southbank Centre, a London landmark that is home to the creative arts and culture. It's a place of talks, musical productions, fun and engaging immersive theatre and so much more. There's not a week that goes by without something for our children to benefit from, so take a look at the family and young people events and monitor our blogs for our learning opportunities
London Zoo
And every once in a while, all of our schools come together for a Hatching Dragons wide school trip to London zoo to check out the animals that we've been learning about throughout our monthly regional themes of learning. It's a wonderful day out for all of the children, and the zoo staff offer a huge enrichment programme that aim to teach the children about zoology and how we should all care for the climate
Vauxhall City Farm
Our local playgrounds
We do benefit from a pretty amazing outdoor playspace, onsite at the school. Replete with swings and mud kitchens, its a mainstay of our provision. But, it's always nice to have a change of scenery, and so we take our children out to the local parks and playgrounds around the community to try out some new kit, play with some new children and get to know their area a little more. After all, it's all about understanding the world, as well as learning the monkey bars!
