Canada Water School Highlights - September 27, 2024

Our Harvest festival is almost here!

Our children continue to learn about harvest season and the farm produce such as the variety of vegetables and fruits being picked up.

Children had a multisensory experience exploring the harvest season and autumn.

On Thursday we also celebrated the European Day of Languages, encouraging language learning and exploring the beauty of so many languages that are spoken across Europe.

Children had opportunities to enjoy the Autumn weather, exploring the wet environment, learning about the appropriate clothes we need to wear when it is raining and the different clothes we choose for cold days, our babies even crafted an umbrella!

Harvest Festival & Autumn

This week we reviewed what we have learned so far about the Harvest Festival and continued to learn the meaning of celebrating harvest, recognising the hard work of our farmer that goes into providing produce to our tables.

Children engaged in a variety of harvest related learning activities and fun games.

Our babies dived into multi-sensory exploration of farmland using tractors, cinnamon paint and Autumn leaf printing, or sensory play feeling different textures and colour to explore the harvested fruits and vegetables.

Preschoolers had opportunity learning about ways that different fruit, vegetables and crops are being harvested, and where different produce comes from.

They particularly enjoyed apple and pear picking from trees, which we extended into creating produce basket and our own fruit prints.

Children used their knowledge of autumn colours that we have been reviewing and selected paints accordingly.

Additionally, children ‘harvested’ grapes, making grapes print to add to our Harvest Produce Basket.

The European Day of Languages

On Thursday, we celebrated the European Day of Languages.

Children engaged in variety of language activities throughout the day, focusing on greetings from all over Europe, our teachers speaking any European languages had an opportunity to speak to children in their native language promoting diversity and the importance of language learning.
