Welcome back to school!
Here we are again, September starts and we start a new term. We are welcoming a lot of new friends and said our goodbyes to peers that moved to ‘big schools’.
There are many new adventures ahead of us and plenty of learning to do.
We start September with introducing our next geographical theme - The Middle East.
We started with learning about the geography and the desert habitat as well as the rich culture across different nations in the Middle East in preschool.
Our babies started exploring Harvest Time, what life on a farm is, fruit and vegetables and farm animals.
Our toddlers are enjoying any last bits of summer weather and enjoy experimenting with how our bodies move, engaging in physical games outside and building structures.
As we start talking about the harvest time and our coming Harvest Festival at the end of the month, we teach children to celebrate the food we harvest, the fruit, the vegetables from the farms and crops gathered from our fields.
What a better time to visit our local farm then during harvest season, children saw the animals that give us a variety of produce, such as goats, sheep, chicken, pigs with baby piglets.
We also saw the vegetables and fruits that grow there, especially children who were excited to see tomatoes and a pumpkin.
We often don't eat food that we grow ourselves so it is important to teach children where the produce comes from and the process of how food gets from farms to table.
Babies, toddlers and preschoolers loved to see the friendly goats jumping on the fence to say hello to us. Our baby room extended on learning about harvest so children explored life on the farm.
Children were introduced to farm animals through a new engaging game, learning the names of a variety of animals we can find on farms as well as experimenting with different textures when diving into sensory and messy play related to farm animals and harvest.
We are going to be discovering the beauty and richness of the culture in the Middle Eastern countries.
Children learned about the natural habitat in the Middle East, especially about desert habitat, the animals that we can find in such dry and hot weather conditions in the desert.
We looked at how many different countries we can find in the middle east and how they adapt to the hot weather.
Children had a lot of fun face painting facial/hand tattoos of middle eastern tribes.
As we are marking the occasion of The Great Fire of London this week, children enjoyed learning about fire as an element, fire safety and showed a great interest in the story of the Great Fire of London.
We used books, flash cards and storytelling to engage children in such a big historic moment in London.
Some of our preschoolers were familiar with St Paul Cathedral so they were very surprised to learn that the Cathedral burnt down during the Great Fire Of London before it was rebuilt later on.
Children learned about the sequence of the event and how the fire started. We looked at the Monument that we can find in London where the Fire started in the bakery in 1666.
Children explored some artworks capturing fire, ranging from the painting from the time of the Great Fire of London to modern arts and sculptures, which inspired children to create their own artworks of The Fire.
We saw a big variety of individual creations, each of them different and unique, yet using the same subject.
Well done, Little Artists!
For the next week, we are all going to continue to learn about Harvest and farms.
Our babies and toddlers will continue introducing different animals while preschoolers will explore the life of farmers and the value of Harvest festival.
We're also teaching them gratitude for all the amazing produce we get from farms.
We will also start learning about the Mid-autumn festival and continue to learn more about the Middle East.
