As we're transitioning in August, we're closing our lessons about Africa and diving straight into Australasia.
We've been enjoying the fine summer weather outside and celebrated the Graduation of our children in preschool and their big moment when they enter the next chapter of their lives.
What we did this week
The Surrey Docks Farm
Preschoolers recently visited The Surrey Docks Farm, now that the weather is nice, we saw lots of animals out of their shelters.
African culture
As we were closing on learning about the continent of Africa, its rich culture and traditions, children explored some traditional textile patterns and designs in vibrant colours.
We also enjoyed learning about the variety of natural habitats across Africa, such as Savanna, rainforests, and very hot desert.
Preschoolers learned about the very interesting indigenous mud houses/huts that help to keep the people cool in very hot weather.
Children create their own little round mud huts, using mud, paint, and straw.
Enjoying summer day activities
As we finally experienced some sunshine children spent more time outdoors, we moved some of our lovely activities outside too.
Whether it was painting, water play to keep us cool, or experimenting with the ways our bodies can move, we had fun in the warm summer weather—and to keep us refreshed, we even made fruit ice lollies!
Languages
Our kids engaged with Mandarin language activities and children explored many different ways they show us how much they learned.
They also used lolly sticks to create chinese characters or playdough to form the letters. They also learned new vocabulary in French with our French speaking teacher.
Cultures and Regions
Traditional Batik design
Children created their own batik fabric design. We focused on African cultures because there are a wide range of cultures and tribes in Africa.
We learned about the traditional tribal art and design and looked into where they take inspiration for their clothing, such as the natural world or animal patterns, spiritual beliefs of specific tribes, or an artist.
Graduation
The highlight of last week was the graduation of our all grown up preschoolers.
They marked the occasion with a performance for their families and teachers and everyone had a fabulous time at the party afterwards with Lucy Sparkles’ Super Woman as an entertainer.
Children received their certificates of completing their education with Hatching Dragons, needless to say it was a very emotional time.
We are all very proud of children's achievements and wish them all the best for their future.
What we're doing next week
We continue to learn about special parts of the world Australasia, South Pacific and Oceania, specifically its geography and unique traditional Aboriginal Art.
