Another Week of Exciting STEAM Activities for Preschoolers

This week at nursery has been filled with excitement, learning, and creativity as we continue to explore the world through play! From hands-on activities to engaging story sessions, the children have had a fantastic time immersing themselves in new experiences.

It’s also a special week as we wrap up our exploration of East Asia. Over the past few weeks, the children have discovered the beauty of this region—through art, music, storytelling, and cultural traditions. This final week has been all about celebrating what we’ve learned, with even more fun STEAM activities for preschoolers to bring our journey to a close in the most exciting way!

Hatchlings

We embarked on a delightful journey to East Asia by crafting dumplings with our little ones. Using play dough and vibrant colored oats, the babies explored the textures and shapes that are integral to this beloved culinary tradition. This hands-on experience not only introduced them to the rich cultural heritage of East Asia but also stimulated their sensory development and fine motor skills. As they squished, rolled, and shaped the dough, they engaged in activities that enhanced their motor skills and sensory awareness.

Our Hatchlings had a wonderful time on their very first trip to St. Paul’s! The babies enjoyed the fresh air and new sights as we took a gentle stroll around the area, taking in the beautiful architecture and the sounds of the bustling city.

Blue Dragons

Modern languages:

This week, Blue Dragon deepened their understanding of family during our language lessons. The children learned key family-related words in Mandarin, including Mum (妈妈 Māmā), Dad (爸爸 Bàba), Sister (姐姐 Jiějiě), Brother (兄弟 Xiōngdì), and Family (家庭 Jiātíng).

Regional education:

This week, Blue Dragon had an absolute blast exploring our beautiful blossom tree pond! The children learned all about blossom trees, where they grow, and why they are so special. With lots of excitement, they set out to collect as many flowers as possible, turning it into a fun and engaging activity. Of course, no pond adventure is complete without a bit of splashing—making the experience even more enjoyable! It’s been a fantastic way to celebrate nature and continue our exploration of East Asia.

Outdoor play:

This week, Blue Dragon enjoyed a fantastic visit to Fortune Park! Our adventure began with a delightful picnic, where we shared crackers and plenty of juicy oranges—a perfect way to refuel for the fun ahead. After our picnic, we explored the park, where the children had an amazing time climbing, swinging, and stretching their muscles. It was a wonderful opportunity to develop their physical skills.

Specialist teachers:

This week was packed with exciting STEAM preschool activities led by our wonderful specialist teachers! We kicked off the week with a sporty mini session, starting with a warm-up to wake up our bodies. The children had a great time jumping on the spot and in circles, using both feet to push off the ground. Next, we practiced rolling hoops across the floor, improving our coordination and motor skills—all while having so much fun! Midweek, we had a magical session with Miss Molly, where we enjoyed a calm and relaxing atmosphere filled with twinkling lights and glowing stars. The children had a wonderful time popping bubbles, moving their bodies to the music, and singing their favorite songs.

Regional Education - Yayoi Kusama Art Exploration:

Our young artists were introduced to the vibrant world of renowned Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. We discussed her unique use of bold colors and her iconic circle patterns. Inspired by her distinctive style, the children created their own masterpieces, experimenting with shapes and colors in a similar way to Kusama’s work. This activity gave them the opportunity to engage with her artistic themes while expressing their own creativity. They further explored Kusama's signature circular designs through painting and stamping techniques, bringing the essence of her art to life in their own creations.

STEAM Activities for Preschoolers

Our preschoolers had an exciting, sensory-rich experience this week through water play! Using syringes, they practiced their fine motor skills while exploring the textures and movement of water—turning learning into a fun and engaging STEAM activity for preschoolers. In addition, some children took part in a physics-based balancing challenge. They carefully placed number blocks and bears on a stick balanced between two cups, experimenting with weight, stability, and coordination. These hands-on activities sparked curiosity, encouraged problem-solving, and made learning both playful and meaningful.

Amazing Excursions:

We made the most of the sunny weather this week with some outdoor adventures! In the morning, we visited the Barbican Highwalk, where the children explored the nature and blooming trees. Also, we had a fun-filled time at Fortune Street Park, where they climbed on play equipment, slid down the slides, and enjoyed the swings. It was a wonderful way for the children to get active while appreciating the great outdoors.

Extra-Curricular Sessions:

During our Sporty Minis session, the children had fun imitating different animals' movements, balancing on one foot, and jumping over ladders. In our Yoga with Miss Molly session, the children explored their emotions through storytelling, sharing personal experiences tied to various feelings. They also practiced yoga poses that helped them connect with their bodies and emotions. The session ended with a peaceful star-gazing activity, where the children focused on breathing and relaxation to calm their minds.
